Step 1: Perform the following steps while connected to the internet on the device(s) you want to use to read the UM offline.

  • Click here login to your UM account.
  • Click here to go to the “Bookshelf” web page.
  • Click or tap the “Download” button for each chapter you want to have available offline.
    • Note: you must be connected to the internet and you must have purchased a digital copy of the book you are trying to download. Click here if you would like to view your account details.

Step 2: Save the UM “Bookshelf” web page to Safari web browser “Favorites”

While on the Bookshelf page, tap on the share icon at the bottom of the screen and tap the “Add To Favorites” option. Name the favorite whatever you would like and then tap save in the top right of the screen. That’s it! The other two steps help explain how to read the downloaded chapters offline and how to use the Bookshelf page. Please see the gif (short video) below for tutorial of this step.

How to Download and Read the UM Chapters Offline on iPhone or iPad

Step 1: Make sure you are connected to the internet on the device(s) you want to use to read the UM offline.

Step 2: Tap here login to your UM account.

Step 3: Tap here to go to the “Bookshelf” web page.

Step 4: Tap the “Download” button for each chapter you want to have available offline. In the beta version, you must also tap “View” on each chapter as well (Note: you must be connected to the internet and you must have purchased a digital copy of the book you are trying to download. Tap here if you would like to view your account details).

Step 5: While on the Bookshelf page, tap on the share icon at the bottom of the screen and tap the “Add To Favorites” option. Name the favorite whatever you would like and then tap “Save” in the top right of the screen. That’s it! You are ready to start reading offline. How to access the “Bookshelf” page without internet connection on an iPhone or iPad

Step 1: Tap on your Safari app.

Step 2: Tap on the address bar at the top of the screen.

Step 3: From the favorites menu, select the UM Bookshelf favorite shortcut you created in the previous step. Please see the gif below for a tutorial of these step.

How to use the Bookshelf page

Assuming you have downloaded all of the UM chapters, you can now browse the Bookshelf page offline. Make sure to scroll down to see the entire list of chapters. Please see the gif below for a tutorial of this step.

Placeholder feature (bookmarking last used page)

The offline reader will automatically remember the last page you were reading for each book you read. You can exit out of the app, turn off your device and when you come back you will automatically be taken to the page where you left off! Please see the gif below demonstrating this feature.

Quick page skipping feature

While you are reading a chapter, tap once in the center of the device to display a menu. The bottom of the screen will display a page scrolling bar that you can drag and drop to your desired page. See the gif below for a demonstration of the feature.
