Despite the millions-of-years rock-age theory, rocks like these nodules often take only hours or days to form. They are not formed deep underground as some have suggested because deep canyons, mines, caves and boreholes show no evidence of nodules like those found on the surface. There are no observations of nodules-in-the-making in caves or mines.
